Are You Training Your Children In Truth Or Deception?

Parents say they want to raise their children in truth, yet many still use Easter to feed their children lies. That is not a small contradiction. It is a serious one. Easter is not a neutral season with a few bad extras attached to it. Easter itself is a syncretized pagan tradition that Christianity adopted and dressed up with Jesus language. The bunny, the eggs, the fertility imagery, the myths, and the sentimental family rituals are not unfortunate side issues. They belong to the whole corrupt package.

That matters because parents are not just giving their children candy and games. They are training them. They are teaching them what truth looks like, what worship looks like, and what kind of mixture is acceptable before God. When a child is told that a magical creature came into the house, hid eggs, and left gifts, that child is being deliberately deceived. Adults can call it fun, imagination, or innocence, but none of those labels change what it is. It is a lie.

A lie is not softened just because the child smiles. A lie is not purified because it is tied to a holiday. A lie is still a lie when the intent is to make someone believe something false. If a parent knowingly presents fiction as reality, the parent is deceiving the child. That is exactly what happens with the Easter Bunny. It is not harmless. It is training through falsehood.

That alone would already be a problem, but Easter makes it worse because the lie is being told inside a broader pagan framework. This is not simply a matter of a few playful traditions getting out of hand. Easter itself is a man-made observance rooted in syncretism, the mixing of things God never joined together. Christianity took a pagan spring framework, filled with fertility symbols and practices, and blended it with the resurrection of Jesus. That is not biblical faith. That is religious mixture.

God never told His people to celebrate Easter. He never told them to honor Him through spring fertility imagery. He never told them to bring in pagan symbols, rename them, and act like the mixture became holy. Scripture warns against learning the religious ways of the nations and then using them in worship. Yet that is exactly what Easter represents. It is not biblical at the core and then made worse by a bunny. The bunny is one expression of the same pagan system.

That is why Christian parents who promote the Easter Bunny are not just adding innocent fun to a Christian season. They are participating in a paganized tradition and then adding direct deception on top of it. They are handing their children mixture and calling it faith. They are normalizing pagan symbolism and falsehood while claiming to care about truth and obedience.

Proverbs 22:6 says, Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

That training happens in real life, not just in lectures. Children learn from the habits adults normalize. They learn from what gets celebrated, what gets defended, and what gets excused. If a parent teaches that God cares about truth, but then lies to preserve a holiday tradition, the child is learning that truth is flexible. If a parent says God hates paganism, but then participates in a paganized observance because it is popular and nostalgic, the child is learning that obedience can be bent for the sake of sentiment.

Ephesians 4:25 says, Therefore, putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor. For we are members of one another.

Proverbs 12:22 says, Lying lips are an abomination to Yahweh, but those who do business faithfully are his delight.

Those verses do not come with a holiday exemption. They do not make room for seasonal lies, religious mixture, or family-friendly paganism. God’s standard does not change because the culture wrapped rebellion in pastel colors and made it feel wholesome.

Parents also need to think beyond the early childhood years. At some point, children figure it out. They learn that the Easter Bunny was never real, that the adults knew it, and that the whole thing was maintained on purpose. Some children brush it off. Others start making connections. If mom and dad were willing to lie about that, what else were they willing to lie about? That crack in trust may not always explode in the moment, but it is still a crack.

Even worse, children are being conditioned to connect joy, celebration, and religious meaning with myths God never gave. Instead of being trained to love what God commanded, they are being trained to love a counterfeit. Instead of being rooted in the patterns of Scripture, they are being rooted in Christianity’s man-made substitutes.

God already gave His people a real framework for remembrance, celebration, and teaching children. He did not leave families empty and force them to invent religious traditions from pagan sources. He gave appointed times that are rooted in truth, history, covenant, and obedience.

Exodus 12:14 says, This day shall be to you for a memorial, and you shall keep it a feast to Yahweh. Throughout your generations you shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever.

That is not mythology. That is not pagan symbolism. That is not a fictional creature hiding eggs in the yard. That is God establishing a memorial for His people and commanding that it be kept throughout their generations.

Deuteronomy 11:19 says, You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.

That is the pattern. Teach your children what God actually said. Walk them through what God actually commanded. Fill the home with truth, not paganism with a Christian label slapped on top.

If parents want meaningful memories, they do not need Easter. If they want beauty, joy, celebration, and family tradition, they do not need mythology, bunny stories, dyed eggs, or a syncretized religious system that God never authorized. They can build their home around what is real. They can teach their children the appointed times of God. They can give them practices that reinforce truth instead of undermining it.

3 John 1:4 says, I have no greater joy than this, to hear about my children walking in truth.

Children are not trained to walk in truth by being fed lies inside pagan tradition. They are trained to walk in truth when parents stop excusing mixture, stop defending deception, and start building family life around what God actually gave. Easter is not a Christian celebration that got a little corrupted. It is corruption. Parents who fear God should stop treating it like something worth saving.
