MONDAY BIBLE STUDY

The Lord is softening Israel's heart to the gospel. He's opening and creating a little curiosity and making Israel a little more inquisitive. But he's also opening an opportunity for the church just to be there. The ministry of our presence now is more important than ever.

What Paul's really getting at, in a nutshell, is the character of Jesus in terms of His humility. In 2 9, Paul says it like this, he says, Though he was rich, for our sakes he became poor. In other words he shed all the things that declared his greatness. All of the things that declared his power, his might his very being as God. Those riches, He shed and for our sakes became poor. In other words, he clothed himself with humility. He didn't say yes, because I'm God, I'm not going to become man. He humbled himself though. He was rich for our sakes. He became poor. And if we recognize weaknesses in our lives. It's gotta lead us to a place of humility.

Do we understand the heart Of the one giving the message? Do we understand the intent of that message? Or are we just consuming the message because it sounds good to our ears? And so I believe the book of Proverbs will then set us on a course to really take our time to understand the wisdom of God because in that we will know the heart of God. We will know the intent of God. We will know the purpose of the information. And as we know it, we will see the goodness of God every single time because the message is meant. To preserve you, to protect you, to keep you on the path of righteousness, to help you in your dark moments, to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, that all you need to do is stand on the path of righteousness, you're obedient to his word, as you understand, as you gain understanding of what it's saying.

These Corinthians, they were falling back into some of their old ways of thinking. And so Paul says, Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you, I couldn't talk to you as I would to spiritual people. I had to talk to you as though you belong to this world or as though you were infants in Christ. I had to feed you with milk, not solid food, because you weren't ready for anything stronger. And. Guess what? That's my own word, but it says, And you still aren't ready, you are still controlled by your sinful nature. You're jealous of one another and quarrel with each other. Doesn't that prove that you're controlled by your sinful nature? Aren't you living like people of the world? When one of you says, I'm a follower of Paul and another says, I follow Apollos. Aren't you just acting like people of the world? After all, who was Apollos? Who was Paul? We are only God's servants through whom you believed the good news. Each of us did the work that the Lord gave us. I planted the seed in your hearts and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. Paul is saying, essentially, don't you see that both are needed? If you're going to win people to Christ, it has to be simple and pared down to the essentials. But then, if you're going to grow in Christ, there has to be much deeper teaching. You have to go on to deeper things, and it takes the simple presentation of the gospel to plant the seed, but it takes a much deeper rational presentation of Christian truth to make a person grow and be watered. Though all the time, it's only God who enables the whole thing to grow.

One of the most timely and important messages of our time. When God doesn't hold on to you, what you really want to do, that flesh, that sinful nature we're born into, it comes out. And, it's not very good. Godless people don't like God's way of living. And that's within all of us. We have all a fallen nature with wrong desires. "Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another."
